In June 2018, the ministry announced a decision to impose anti-dumping duties on the two countries and the Taiwan region for a period of five years. Styrene, also known as styrene monomer, is a chemical used widely in the plastics and rubber industries.

In June 2023, the ministry launched a review of anti-dumping measures applicable to imports of styrene from the ROK, the Taiwan region and the United States, in response to an application from the Chinese mainland styrene industry.

It was ruled that should the anti-dumping measures be terminated, the dumping of styrene from the two countries and the Taiwan region could continue or reoccur, which could damage the Chinese mainland styrene industry, according to the ministry.
